What we Do

Matahari means 'the sun' in Indonesian, vital for both products we work with: coffee and cocoa!

Coffee

We are specialists in sourcing Indonesian and PNG coffees, focusing on high grade (specialty) Arabica coffees, and meeting growing demands for Robusta coffees as well.

Over the last twenty years we have built sustainable links with a network of reliable producers and exporters. We mainly work with local producers, cooperatives and exporters.

Over the last two decades we have developed a deep knowledge of the cocoa industry in Indonesia and China. We know, and in most cases work with, almost every grinding factory in these two countries.  

 We help grinders source the cocoa beans they need for the production of cake, liquor and butter.  And then Matahari finds a reasonable price for their products, matched with the needs of international traders and confectionary industry buyers.

History

It started in Java

Matahari was originally created to assist the state owned plantation company of Indonesia (PT Perkebunan Nusantara) to sell coffee and cocoa from their Javanese (Dutch origin) estates. During the first years we maintained our focus on Indonesian products, quickly expanding our supplier and customer base.

Today our operations have grown across the globe from the firm grounding we created in Indonesia.  We maintain the same values of equality, transparency and trust, adding to the knowledge and skills learned over the years and working directly with specialist producers around the world.
